***MINIMAL SPOILERS*** Jim Carrey plays Fletcher Reede, a smooth talking, hyena-like Attorney who will say ANYTHING to get his way, escpecially in a Court of Law. As Reede's narcisstic lifestyle is quite the contradiction to being a decent family man, an ingredient that works in this story is Reede's little son Max, who feels neglected most of the time by Reede, using his "job" of "lawyering" as the excuse for not spending time with the little lad. On Max's Birthday, Max decides to REALLY make a wish to blow out the B-Day candles; max wishes that for 24 hours, his dad cannot tell a lie. Not one little lie! Oh what a web we weave when we intend to deceive! Problem is, Reede has no more silk, and the comedic struggles that follows him, from the buxom temptress client Meg Tilley, to power-broker partner-granting Amanda Donohoe, and antics against Reedes loyal Secretary, Anne Haney as Greta, are hilarious! Carrey has material that is well-suited to his physical, slap-stick comedy that VERY FEW can even think of daring to do. Maura Tierney is good as Reedes, estranged wife, and even the Judge, played by Jason bernard, is excellent. The writing for this comedy is top-notch, despite the device of a boy's little spell. This movie is the perfect vehicle for Jim Carrey, that displays his looks, his voice, and what he brings to the screen. This movie also brought plenty of green!Read full review

Fletcher Reed a fast talking attorney, habitual liar, and divorced father is an incredibly successful lawyer who has built his career by lying. He has a habit of giving precedence to his job and always breaking promises to be with his favorite young son Max, but Fletcher lets Max down once too often, for missing his own son's birthday party. But until then at 8:15 Max has decided to make an honest man out of him as he wishes for one whole day his dad couldn't tell a lie. When the wish comes true all Fletcher can do is tell the truth and cannot tell one lie. Jim Carrey puts so much energy and pure comedic brilliance into this movie. The story is solid and legitimate as well, and it is well-presented and directed, resulting in a good, fun comedy.
Jim Carey is funny, but he is genuinely hilarious in this romantic comedy about a lawyer who constantly lies to his wife, his kid and the courts he works in, and seems very succesful at it until his son makes a wish at his birthday party and then the movie becomes a CLASSIC!!! Great Jim Carrey vehicle for his voices, face contorsions and acting! Not as crude as some of his prior movies, but this PG-13 show is very close to a family show, with no F-words and getting its rating for some sexual innuendo, but no nudity either! It's a classic, and my late wife's favorite movie ever!

This is the movie my family turns to when one of us is upset or sad or down. I is our family's one sure fire pick me up. This movie is funny no matter how many time you watch it, and I believe it gets funnier each time we watch it. at one point we had lines from this movie on our answering Machine. We are hooked. THis was one of Jim Carrys best, IF NOT the best movie he made. My review is as folows: Jim carry is a busy man, a lawyer who will do anything to win a case, Including lying and scheming, his son loves him to death, he is divorced, and on his sons Birthday he wishes his dad could not tell a lie for 24 hours. in which case the movie turns into the funniest thing you will ever witness on screen. the writers of this movie are true comic's . it is an adorable family movie.
