Merkur is very respected brand in wetshaving community. This Merkur 34C requires more attention then expected. Every time loading new blade, blade needs manual realignment/repositioning, in order to ensure that exposure of the blade is even and correct. Posts of the razor cap are not thick enough and cause a wobble of the blade. Apart from that it is Merkur.

I was adamant at first on forking out money on what I perceived to be “just a razor”. But when a variety of people mention this razor pitted against the DE89 from a competitor, I just had to take the plunge. I got into double edge shaving after years of wasting money on these triple, quadruple and even quintuple blade systems where the so called one blade will last up to 3 months was total baloney. I barely had a blade last me three weeks with weekday shaving. So I went and purchased a Wilkinson Sword Classic as my entry into DE shaving. I got used to it after many cuts and accidents. After many years of using multiple Classics, I thought why is it that the Merkur 34C is highly recommended? Well, after using this razor, I am not turning back! Although it is heavy it is perfectly weighted and balanced. The Wilkinson Sword Classic does feel a lot closer to the skin but then it has a tendency to cut me more. This Merkur never gave me a cut on its first use although to get a closer cut you do have to find that perfect angle. I think it is finding the perfect combination of a DE razor and blade that works for you. I have, so far I think, found the perfect razor and now it is a quest to find that perfect blade. The engineering quality is perfect and I don’t regret buying the 34C at all.Read full review

Great piece of 'proper' machined metal. Heavy, perfectly finished and something of the 'old school'. I use this every third to day to shave with Feather brand blades, can't believe how great the old methods are - way more comfortable and close shave that any modern equivalent. And, after a few weeks you'll get payback and be into a fairly significant cost saving. Love it.

The weight is reassuringly heavy, the blade guard is impressive as cuts hair but not your face which was all to easy to do with my old cheap safety razor. That old razor served a purpose preferable to Gillet, Wilkinson & sword and various other expensive disposables. However this razor is truly sets the bar for all other safety razors. Replacing blades is a little bit trickier than a butterfly. But after the 2nd/3rd time you'll be used to it. Pleased as punch great buy.

Was looking for a good safety razor, then I saw this one.I have read and viewed few reviews about this one and I can tell you that they are not wrong. So we have a good crafted handle along with non slip. It's not aggressive razor,it's very easy to change razor once you have done with it. It's little on heavy side but once you get used to it it's not that a big of a deal. I would recommend this one to all beginners to wet shaving.
