|Victoria is often seen as the forgotten state when it comes to gem minerals. The history of gems in Victoria is inextricably linked to the discovery of gold in 1851. In 1854, George Milner Stephen publicised for the first time, the discovery of gems in Victoria. These included blue and white sapphires from Ballarat diggings and rubies, topaz and garnet from the River Ovens in rtheast Victoria. In 1857, well-kwn German natural historian Ludwig Becker reported that these same gems could also be found where there was gold.|

One of these on every state would be really good.
A well presented book that stays on topic. This is an interesting book that covers Victorian gemstones for the fossicker and more the serious mineralogist. It's revised and therefore not dated. You can read it and still hope to find something special even in the well worked areas. Good value!
Comprehensive historical document
Was not aware this particular service was available. Factual reproductions of out of print documents are certainly valuable to those researching the areas to which they relate. My only other option would be to search public institutions of which I do not have easy access. I would certainly recommend this site be included for searches of hard to find and obscure documents.

Top Quality print and plates, full of useful information, I have a copy also of the original from the 60's and the only thing lacking in this version is that it is short a couple of the maps that are in the original!!!
