I was actually able to get my best shot -- so far -- handheld at 400 mm. My tripod shots at any focal length are still blurry (learning curve?) but I do need a rock solid tripod and am experimenting with sandbags to further steady any camera/lens shake. I still haven't used the 2x converter yet, waiting for a new tirpod.

It is hard to get used to for us amateurs. Takes a good pic once you get used to it, but only in bright light. My Nikon seems to put it at a minimum aperture opening. Will update this if I figure out a better way to take pics. As of now I have to up the Iso, which makes the image grainy or change the shutter speed which requires a steady hand/tripod. Still seems great on a budget.
