I travel and need a camera that takes great photos (and videos) without having to lug around extra lenses. I also need a "through the eyepiece" viewfinder because I find the LCD screens often unacceptable under harsh lighting. This camera is classed as a "bridge camera" and it does it all! High pixel count, awesome 30X optical zoom lens, exceptional image stabilization and low light sensitivity. Many more special effect "electronic features" than I will ever use but that might come in handy someday. To date I have always owned Canon and Nikon cameras but Sony has met the challenge with this model. The only shortfall I have found so far is one mentioned by many others: you need to charge the battery in the camera (although you can buy an extra battery and external charger for less than $20). The user manual is included in the camera memory so it is always with me. Great for traveling and for around home. Everything is packed in this small easy to handle camera and the auto modes make taking photos nearly idiot proof.Read full review
I bought this because it was not as heavy as a full Digital SLR. However, the lens capability and the sensor 16MP is unbeatable in this price range. The LCD tilts up and down. I have found this to be more useful than expected. Suddenly the camera makes my shot easier when I would have needed more space to check it in the viewfinder. What sold me was a YouTube video review. This camera is new as of January 2011. Incredible photos. Very easy to use. Battery shows you how many minutes you have left. Mine sits around 2 hours since I don't turn it on that much. Very versatile. Easy to adjust exposure or shutter speed. Buttons are placed nicely. Video capability is up to 60 frames per second at 1080 progressive. That is very smooth. Panorama mode is easy to use. I used to have to take 3 shots which my Kodak would stitch together. This has sweep panorama mode which allows you to move the camera left or right in a sweep. It senses the motion and makes the picture in one move. If you don't move fast enough it tells you to try again. Incredible technology in this camera for an incredible price. I paid $400. Well worth it.Read full review
I bought this camera about three months ago and I'm very happy with the picture quality and the functions it offers. For the price it's unbeatable. It's very easy to use right out of the box. It also takes great HD video.the only downfall this camera has is that to charge the battery you need to plug it directly into camera but I decided to buy an extra battery that came with a wall charger on ebay that cost about $17.00, not to bad.Hope this helps
I bought this camera as a replacement for my old point and shoot 10 megapixel pocket camera which was nothing to compare in terms of image quality and how interesting and amusing it is to shoot pictures with it; I must say this camera is on a league of its own. I carry it with me everywhere just looking for things to shoot and see how they would come out with the different features. Having a tripod is a must if you are planning on shooting images at a distance, if you don't feel like carrying one everywhere you go, the rapid fire shooting sequence can somewhat even out the shaking of your hands, surprisingly the pictures come out with no blur at all, to me that was incredible, more like a SLR camera would do. I'm very happy with this camera and have no regrets at all for choosing this model over the Canon equivalent which was my other choice.Read full review
This is the best bang for your buck when you compare it against similar Nikon or Canon models. The picture quality is excellent. The only problem with this camera is the screen. It is very clear, nice. It tilts away from the camera which is great, but doesn't swivel vertical. Not really a big problem. This is a great camera and I really like it. It would take a long time to tell you about all the features this camera has. Love it.
