Astonishingly Value!
This review is for the Sigma “C” lens in Nikon mount. I set up a lens test with newspaper classified ads at 32’. A Nikon D5200 with the Sigma “C” vs. the leading competitor's 70D with 400/5.6L. This isn’t a comparison the Sigma could reasonably be expected to win, but a preliminary test showed the 400L might have some difficulty competing. I gave it a little advantage by using the mirror lock & shutter delay on the 70D. The D5200 doesn’t have mirror-up shooting. The 70D is 20MP & the D5200 is 24MP. I compared images at 100%, which also advantaged the 400L because of slightly less enlargement. I shot RAW files; both lenses at maximum aperture; tripod mounted with stabilization off. (The Sigma OS can’t be used on a tripod, but produced tripod quality results on a monopod). My copy of the Sigma 150-600 “C” proved very sharp throughout it’s range on the Nikon D5200. It easily out resolved the excellent 400/5.6L at 400mm, & even managed to eke out a win at 600mm (compared to the 400L at 400mm). Great purchase! Outperforms even optimistic expectations. It should be noted that lens performance can vary significantly with different camera sensors.

The Sigma 150-600mm is a lens I wanted after reading all the reviews, and I have not been disappointed.
I've been shooting primarly Zoo criters and some Landscape extraction shoots all tripod mounted. I've been completely satisfied with the results. Autofocus as been right on! I just spent a day with my grand kids at the park and on an ice-skating ring. One thing I can say, you will improve your physical condition hand holding, its not light. But if a 68 year older can do it, so can you. I was successful in tracking, and shooting my rug rats and yes auto focus works. So as of right now I happy guy. I would recommend!

This is a review for the Sport, not Contemporary.
Well the SPORT is the one I purchased. This thing is a beast! Very sharp, very nice quick focus, yet if youre doing small birds far off, you will be hunting a bit. But the nice focus ring is right there with no issues over the auto focus to dail in a crisp shot.I used the Canon 1.4x on this and you get manual focus only, yet the pix are not as sharp from using the combo. You can simply enlarge to the equal magnification and you'd be sharper. The build is superb, pretty close to my L 70-200IS2.8, though I think that one being a solid piece feels more tough. Either way, this is rain proof, and all types of dust proof. Has a metal hood with a nice easy quick knob. Another thing I like is the push/pull zoom function. much like the old Canon 300mm zoom Macro lens. Works nice. It also has a LOCk feature at all indicated focal lengths, I think each 100mm. VERY handy when in action. Has 2 IS modes, panning , and a general IS. It works rather great. With this racked out to 600mm which is most all the time, just a slight jitter will toss the subject bouncing in the frame. But somehow all my shots are stabilized! So its a bit heavier than the other. If youre gonna be out with this and you are worried about that, you might get a few more minutes with the lighter one, but don't kid yourself, you should have this on a monopod as with any of the 600mm zooms for longer shoot times. Its not so much the weight. Standing there with this pressed up on your face, elbow in, and you trying to hone in on some small bird or whatever will wear you out quick...specially waiting for flight or something! Get a monopod regardless. This has a 105mm glass and a couple other correction glass elements, so I expect this to be a bit, and noticably sharper than the Contemporary. I shot with the Contemp before I got this model, and this is sharper and it might be focusing better to get the sharpness difference I'm seeing. The collar is perm, and I don't see a reason why you'd remove it. Never had a reason even on my 70-200 to remove. But I flip it up and this being longer it makes a great carry handle. Sigma was smart and made this flat piece replaceable. Imagine you ruin a thread. Instead of it being trashed, you simply replace that piece. Also it has both size holes for tripods. Super! Everything on this is smooth, with no hicups. I have been shooting for 20 years, and this is a great lens in this focal length.

A great versatile lens
The Sigma 150-600 produces a sharp image and allows for a fantastic focal length. The lens is somewhat light for it's size and provides great versatility. The image stabilization works well and is a life saver at those long focal lengths! Perfect lens for photographing wildlife!

Great Lens at a Great Price
I use this lens on a Nikon D7100, and could not be more pleased. I could hardly believe the sharpness. Hand held or tripod, this lens produces excellent images with great clarity. For the price compared to more expensive brand names, I would recommend it for anyone looking to capture wildlife and nature.
