Recently purchased and used for photographing a wedding. The 18 - 250mm lens is great. It means the need for changing lens or using additional cameras during a wedding shoot is not needed. Sure take a back up camera, but this lens makes you fast and agile, great for those unexpected moments. The auto focus is good and fast, the 72mm diameter lens lets in plenty of light, so pushing the ISO for the church shots is very good, in fact I was getting 1/125 @ f8 with ISO of 800 in a church, no flash, and poor lighting this was using a Canon 500D DSLR, the results were amazing - My only regret is that I did not purchase this lens earlier. As a general lens for everyday purposes this lens is one of the best compromises you can make, it offers the ability to travel light and not miss out on those special moments. The focusing is done within the housing, so the end of the lens does not move, this is particularly useful if you are using a polarising filter, as you do not have to keep adjusting it after you focus or make minor adjustments. Sigma make high quality products and they have not skimped on this lens. To sum up I would say this is... Quality, Versatile, Affordable, The perfect general purpose lens.Read full review
With an upcoming holiday, I was looking for a 1 lens solution to cover all angles. The reviews on the Sigma 18-250 were very positive, so I took the plunge. Excellent decision ! This is a great one stop solution, main points are: 1. Compact & balances well on camera body. 2. Great zoom selection, covers most options 3. Lightening fast AF 4. Sharp images. Great travel lens - from scienic shots to portraits. It may not be a sharp as a prime lens, however, unless you wish to make a living with this lens, I can find no fault with it at all. Highly recommended !
A friend had recommended this lens for my Canon and as I received a 10% off voucher from PayPal, I decide to take the plunge and buy one. First reaction was it felt quite heavy but I soon got used to that - it's great to be able to have one lens on the camera all the time and be able to capture close up as well as distant objects. My previous lens apart from the standard 18-55m lens, was a 70-300m zoom, which meant that if I had the long lens on I missed or struggled to get objects in. I'm glad I purchased it and would recommend it to anyone.
Very good all purpose lense,it feels really good in my eos 500D. If you are looking for high quality pictures maybe you are better off buying specific saparated lenses as you do loose some quality specially around the 250mm area. As you can tell I am only a begginer, but so far this lense suit my needs very well, I am even planing to sell my original canon 18-55mm and my 55-250mm as I won´t be using those anymore. Maybe in the future I will consider upgrading equipment but I can tell this will be my only lense for a long while.
I bought this lens as I needed all purpose lens so I wouldn't have to change it now and again. For my needs it is a brilliant product, good built quality and fast and accurate auto-focus. Of course it does suffer of some distortions as you would expect from super zoom lens, but if you don't need to make big size prints you won't even notice them. I would recommend this lens to all non professionals who are looking for one lens that will cover all they needs!
