As the always clear and direct Stein explains here, -This is t a book of theory. It is a book of usable solutions--how to fix writing that is flawed, how to improve writing that is good, how to create interesting writing in the first place.- With examples from bestsellers as well as from students' drafts, Stein offers detailed sections on characterization, dialogue, pacing, flashbacks, trimming away flabby wording, the so-called -triage- method of revision, using the techniques of fiction to enliven nfiction, and more.|

This is the only book you need to learn to become a writer.
I bought this product as I am an aspiring writer currently doing an MLitt. I found the book to be utterly compelling. The information within is instantly accessible and the reader is given structures and methods that mean a black page need never cause pain again. The book is authoritative and interesting. It uses a lot of examples from many different sources. It takes you through potential issues such as "show don't tell" and POV, but doesn't leave you stranded, but rather empowers you with a number of strategies. This book has replaced all my other reference books on writing. I love it.
