The passing of a beloved one marks a milestone in a person's life that will dramatically alter the course of their future. Although the loss of a beloved spouse, a dear sibling, a cherished friend, a precious parent, or a darling child etc. is the saddest thing that can possibly happen, t all bereaved people spend the rest of their lives feeling gloomy and miserable. I encourage you to pause for a moment and take a look around you. There are thousands of positive, thriving, healthy, happy people who have somehow managed to find the resilience to continue on even in the aftermath of extreme tragedy and devastating loss. These people are discovering that joy and sorrow can co-exist and have given themselves permission to mourn with intervals of joy. They are learning it is t dishoring to their loved one to seek avenues of healing to alleviate the pain of their broken hearts. They access resources and encircle themselves with people who care, in order to try to recapture the essence of living again. They bent but didn't break. They were crushed but t beyond repair. This book provides 8 strategies, that when applied will provide healing to hearts shattered by bereavement. They are lessons myself and a number of my clients and friends have learned as we have sought to find ways to survive grief. I heard the story once of a woman who was flung out of a boat in a raging river. She sustained a few cuts and bruises while in the river, but miraculously survived. When asked how she survived, she explained she didn't panic but went with the flow of the current until she found a safe place to climb out onto the riverbank. In the same manner you will need to surrender to your predicament without resistance. Yes, you will be battered and bruised, and at times you may wonder if you are ever going to make it to safety. Fighting against the current by igring, denying, delaying or avoiding your grief will only make it worse. You need to embrace it and go with the flow. One day you will find yourself standing on the bank of the river wondering how on earth you mustered up the strength to scramble ashore. You will have survived the very thing that had the potential to drag you down into the depths of despair. | |
