About this product

Product Information

" With the eye of a Renaissance painter and the ear of Dr. Seuss, Aussie Graeme Base is not your basic children s book author. "People" "This unique book, lavishly illustrated with original art and offering never before seen photographs and art, is an evocative look at the life and work of beloved and bestselling author and artist Graeme Base, the creator of the children s classics "Animalia" and "The Eleventh Hour," as well as recent bestsellers "The Water Hole," "Jungle Drums," and "Uno s Garden." This book goes beyond his children s book legacy to offer a candid peek into the mind of a creative genius.Beginning with Base s own storybook childhood in England, we see how his imagination was fed by his family s love of music, literature, and nature; and how his talent was enriched by travel, teachers, friends, and his wife and their three children. From Base s earliest drawings, pop-up cards, and homemade board games, through his years as a teenager and rock musician, and through a quarter-century of published books, we learn about the artists, musicians, writers, and humorists who inspired him, and witness the working of one artist s extraordinary mind."

Super impressed with this seller! They had the best price by far for this book! Both the cost of the book and the shipping fee was far better than average! The book came exactly as described, it was well packaged and quite a bit earlier than expected! The seller was polite and replied quickly to my messages. I’ll definitely make another purchase soon! Thank you to the seller! Be safe and keep up the great work!

WONDERFUL book! Better than described, in just like new condition [not just good]. Packaged very carefully, shipped very securely. Great seller, would buy from again in a heartbeat! No communication occurred, but I imagine it would have been as good as the rest of their customer service. Very happy with purchase, thank you very much!

  • An exceptional celebration.

This a warm, enthusiastic, loving tribute to an exceptional and hard working talent whose keen eye and original mind shines from his earliest childhood work. A celebration of a man who clearly loves what he does and who has always had a deep respect for the integrity and intelligence of his young audience, including himself. Sue Watt has encapsulated Graeme Base's life; his personality, his world and his work in away that gives his long-time readers all the more reason to take out his books and enjoy them fresh. A must-have for any Graeme Base fan.

  • So good I had to keep a copy and get one to give away

With text by Julie Watts and notes on the illustrations by Graeme Base this is a great way to understand the artist behind the wonderful children's books. I bought a copy thinking I would give it away after I read it. I had to buy a second copy because didn't want to give it up.
