Campervans, Caravans and Motorhomes

There is nothing quite like the freedom of having a home on the road. Campervans, caravans and motorhomes give you the option to own your own holiday accommodation to take wherever you please. A camping road trip around Australia is a rite of passage for many, at any stage of life. Campers and RVs can provide extra residential living space for visitors, or placement on a permanent camping site. Whatever your cup of tea, whether you like stripping everything back to basics, or indulging in a luxury glamping camping experience, there are makes and models to suit all budgets and tastes.

Campervans

Campervans are the smallest option and easy to drive and park. Usually a converted cargo type van, they might seem ordinary on the outside, but open them up and you will find, at the least, a bed to rest your head. Campervans are usually two to four berths to sleep a couple of people comfortably. Campervan conversions may also include nifty storage areas, cupboards, dining and kitchen prep space - think the classic VW Kombi camper fit out. Volkswagen still manufactures vans suitable for camping today. Ford, Mazda, Mercedes, and Toyota campervans are often seen on the road. High-top models and pop-up or flip-top roofs are popular campervans for the extra headroom.

Caravans

A caravan gives you portable living space on a trailer with wheels. Tow it to your favourite spot then unhitch your car for day trips. The interior design and facilities in caravans can range from very basic models with beds, sinks and pull-out tables, individual areas that create every room of a normal home – a kitchen, bathroom, living, sleeping and dining facilities, to the ultimate in luxury fixtures and fittings. Three popular caravan makes in Australia include Jayco, Elite, Crusader and more. Different models can sleep two to ten berths and more.

Motorhomes

Motorhomes are the ultimate tiny house on wheels and ideal for packing up and exploring. Motorhomes are larger recreational vehicles with room to move inside. They are usually fully self-contained with all facilities that you need including kitchen, toilet, shower, sleeping and dining areas. Motorhomes usually provide sleeping berths for two to six people, sometimes maximising the space above the cab or front seat/driving area as an extra bed. The layout within motorhomes provides for recreation and relaxation. Motorhome manufacturers and models include Toyota, Volkswagen, Ford, Mitsubishi, Jayco, Avida and Sunliner.
