A good budget lens and a must have in your lens kit.
An canon 85mm f1.8 prime is good lens to own, giving tighter shots than a 50mm and also a bit of distance from the subject so the flash lighting is not harsh and the overall perspective is flat rather than the exaggerated look of a wide angle lens. The blurring of backgrounds is pretty good but not in the league of todays 200-300mm zooms, which are cheap and plentiful, however this is a prime lens and it does have an element of image quality of the zoom.

Im overall happy with it since i bought it second hand. Only thing wrong with it was the focus ring is a bit dodgy to use manually. Its something i might need to look at getting fixed but for right now its manageable. Just makes things a lot slower. Delivery was fast though so thats a plus

The best value-for-money portrait lens you could buy.
I love this lens! I had initial doubts about how good an image could be without image stabilisation but I'm delighted with all my portrait shots. Crisp, clear and with a beautiful bouquet. The auto focus is very quick with easy focus override. About four times the price of my old Canon F/1.8 "Nifty Fifty" but about 10 times as good. If you can only afford one portrait lens then this would have to be it. Anybody want to by a Nifty Fifty?

So happy with my new lens!
I own a Canon 16-35mm 4f lens and wanted a nice fixed lens for portraits. My first thought was a 50mm 1.4 but after making a big research, I decided to go for this one. I collected it today from the Post Office and I just feel I made the best decision. It's such a good lens, very sharp, focus very fast even in darkness and is not heavy! Which was one of my concerns because in the pictures looks bigger and I wanted it for traveling.

Great Portrait lens
This is the first prime lens i ever purchased and i absolutely love it for portrait work. I paid $569 brand new and have never regretted the purchase i take it with me everytime I head out to do photography .. Love it It compliments my lit beautifully
