The Marine John Cena is a great personality every week on WWE programming so it was pretty obvious he would be a decent action star. WWE has been known to be over the top and The Marine is no different. Full-blown action from beginning to end. The Marine has gun fights, fist fights, knife fights, bomb fights, and pretty much any other fight you can think of. There's car chases, explosions, glass breaking, people being thrown, and pretty much every other form of violence you can think of. That being said I didn't think this film was that graphic, the film makers do a good job covering up the blood and guts with innovative camera angles. I already stated that John Cena does a good job as an action star and Kelly Carlson is fantastic as his wife. But the real key to this film is Robert Patrick as the main bad-guy. Patrick is amazing in almost every role he plays and this one is no different. He's funny, witty, and incredibly bad-@$$. Watching The Marine reminded me of all of the action films of yester-year; Predator, Commando, Rambo, Hard Target, Nowhere to Run, and pretty much every other action film from the late-80's, early-90's. If you enjoy old-school action you'll enjoy this. Final Verdict: 4/5 Rent or Buy?: If you have a Van Damme, Stallone, or Ahnold collection this film is a must buy, if not this film is just a rental. Once again., I must divert to the WWE Superstars coming out of Sports-Entertainment and successfully into Hollywood. (A Wall Broken-Down by Dwayne Johnson "THE ROCK" in "Mummy 2", "Scorpion King", "The Rundown", "Walking Tall", "Be Cool", "Gridiron Gang"). Since WWE wrestling is scripted-acting., the WWE athletes have shown their acting abilities were more than ready for the big-screen. (HHH in "Blade 3"., Stone-Cold, Goldberg, Kevin Nash in Adam Sandlers remake "The Longest Yard", Kane in "See No Evil") -- Now John Cena, as Embattled-Marine John Triton, gets blown out of no less than three exploding buildings. That does not even include the exploding cars or the lavish gunplay., in this hit action adventure "The Marine" (UNRATED). -- Triton gets drummed out of the Marines for disobeying a direct order, one in which he ultimately still saved three fellow Marines from sure death at the hands of Al Qaeda. He is therein returned to the United States., where Triton will encounter Jewel Thief Psychopath Rome, (Robert Patrick), and his gang of assorted sociopaths making a daring diamond heist in broad daylight, with no apparent worries about security cameras or witnesses. The Ex-Marine is just looking to have some downtime with his wife, Kate (Kelly Carlson), but in the encounter with Rome she is brutally taken hostage. Clearly not content to let the Police handle this, the former member of Marine Special Ops., a man trained in hand-to-hand combat, covert operations, and demolitions makes the decision to take matters into his own highly trained hands. Explosions are certainly not hard-to-find as everything blows up in this thrill-ride devastation action-adventure. Trition (Cena) also provides an exhilirating car-chase worthy of "The French Connection" & Bullett"., one movies haven't seen in years). This proves such in a seemingly endless car chase as the bullets fly, and rage ensues., blinding rage to recapture his love., his life., his wife.... and destroy ALL in his way., in a very bad way!! (Borrowing a lot from the "Die-Hard Series"., "The Marine" is FAR FROM A LET-DOWN !!) -- This is a major success in the continued WWE movie transitions as Vince McMahon & WWE Films continues to show us that entertainment comes ouside the ring too !! SEE THIS !! Guaranteed Hit Action Flick !!Read full review
Posted by CK-Auctions As part of his ongoing desire to rule the world, Vince McMahon and his WWE conglomerate have gotten into the competitive world of...film production. That's right; using the current stars of his wrestling regime, and matching them up with projects that fit their perceived public personality, this cinematic strategy has borne out two recent releases. The spring of 2006 saw the sloppy slasher hackneyed horror film See No Evil, featuring Glen "Kane" Jacobs. It was not a hit. Then during the annual awards love-in of the Fall and Winter, John Cena starred in the high octane thriller The Marine. A demented throwback to the mid-'80s style of action film, complete with loud explosions, lame dialogue, and laugh out loud humor (both unintentional and otherwise), it should have been a big box office winner. It wasn't. Perhaps on DVD, it will find the audience it deserves. For pure plotless pyrotechnics and loads of fiery fisticuffs, you can't beat this retro ridiculousness. Sometimes, you just need to see sh*t blow up REAL GOOD! You want to watch bullets fly, cars carelessly chase each other, and experience the brain purging power of actors carefully choreographed in bone crunching and face smashing fisticuffs. As an artform, the cinema can be awfully snotty. It can ladle on the self-important arrogance like an Ivy League law professor. In the world of filmic physics, every holier than thou piece of independent drivel derived directly from some slacker's soul searching diary requires an equal and opposite bit of mindless entertainment fluff – and The Marine fits the bill quite nicely. Taking it's cues from the Commando school of shoot-em ups, and filled with enough giganormous fireballs to make flame-lovers foam with demented delight, this guaranteed guilty pleasure of a movie may seem like seriously stupid macho mediocrity. But within the current motion picture malaise, this high concept conundrum where narratives must be nuanced to appeal to the widest demographic possible, it's refreshing to see a story that sticks with the silent film facets of heroes and villains. All our bloated ex-Terminator Robert Patrick requires as heinous hood Rome is a twistable handle bar moustache and a couple of orphanage deeds to foreclose on, and this post-modern Snidely Whiplash would be an instant evil icon. Yet perhaps the biggest question to be addressed here is whether or not John Cena, incredibly popular WWE champion and all around brawny beefcake, has a career in front of the camera. Is he a decent action hero, or should he stick to slamming other musclemen to the square circle matt? The answer, oddly enough, is yes. Cena does have a kind of Arnold Schwarzeneggar as supermodel slickness that renders his physicality perfect for this kind of film. Indeed, he makes a far more appealing man of action than some of the slighter, more sensitive types being tossed at the camera (not including the great Jason Statham). Granted, when actually trying to emote, Cena's real puppy dog personality comes shining through, goofy geniality replacing the stern, steroid-stoked glare that usually accompanies a stellar Smackdown appearance. But put him in a situation where balled up fists have to pummel personnel, where guns must blaze with projectile pumping efficiency, when Herculean determination is required to overcome a near impossible manmade mission, and Cena scores. Perhaps it's his overworked musculature, or permanent granite jawline.Read full review
John Cena WWE play in this movie marine. He portrayed a tough Special Ops Marine John Triton who makes a tough decision to save three fellow soldiers by disobeying a direct order. The only devastating part of this decision is that he is unfortunately discharged. After returning home to his beautiful wife, Kate (Kelly Carlson), he got a job as a security office but that did not for long because he can't forget his past life as a marine for helping people! The two couple have a unfortunate encounter with a psychotic group of jewel theives. The leader of the group, Robert Patrick, and his posy end up making a devastating mistake by kidnapping Kate (Kelly Carlson) which brings out the best or the worst of this Special Ops Marine. There is alot of action in this movie like blowing things up and alot of fight fist on fist. Thought the movie John the marine did not use any guns, he use his fist to do all the fighting. If you like to see fist vs guns this is the movie for you! To me the movie the Marine is so so because I think they should put more bad guys in the movie and let John the marine to use all skills he learn in his past life in the Marine. I want to John the marine useing a gun to snap people that what Marine do in real life. But the movie only let him fight with his fist. so thst is why the movie is so so to me. I just want to see more Marine skills in tis movie!! The movie only cost $20 to $15 new right not but it will go down in price in a few months just like the other movies!!Read full review
WWE's 2nd big theatrical release was much better than the first. The action scenes in this movie are very well done. The car chase scene is very tense and just locks you in. The acting is very good as well. John Cena does an amazing job, I was very impressed. The supporting cast are also all great actors. The only bad thing about this movie is the script writing. Whoever wrote some of the dumb side plots and cheesy lines should burn for tainting this film. But that is really the only down-side to this film. Check it out, you'll enjoy it. This is a MUST HAVE for hardcore WWE fans or Chain Gang members.
Excellent action flick, starring John Cena from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Purchased the Unrated version, and was very pleased. Far superior to The Condemned with Steve Austin and See Now Evil with Kane in terms of acting and storyline. John Cena has a very believable role in this movie. Kelly Carlson co-stars as his wife, and Robert Patrick (The Unit) is a cold-hearted killer and diamond thief. Be advised, the continuous explosions in this film are exceptional. I am a little perplexed how a recently separated Marine can afford a new Lincoln Navigator.
This is another great action packed movie for all of the Action Lovers to enjoy and if you are a guy, getting to see Kelly Carlson just makes it that much better! Although I am not a huge fan of the WWE persay, I do find myself a fan of the movies that have the superstars of WWE in them. I will say that John Cena has found his way into my must watch WWE actors along with The Rock. John Cena portrayed a tough Special Ops Marine John Triton who makes a tough decision to save three fellow soldiers by disobeying a direct order. The only devastating part of this decision is that he is unfortunately discharged from the one career he loved so much, being a MARINE! After returning home to his beautiful wife, Kate (Kelly Carlson), the two of them have an unfortunate encounter with a psychotic group of jewel theives. The leader of the group, Robert Patrick, and his posy end up making a devastating mistake by kidnapping Kate (Kelly Carlson) which brings out the best or the worst of this Special Ops Marine. You can pretty well figure out what happens then, the you know what really hits the fan. To find out how the rest of the movie goes, I guess you will just have to watch it to find out. I can pretty much guarantee you that those action buffs out there will find this a true action thriller. There is a lot of violoence in this movie for those with children or weak stomachs. So be warned! One thing is for sure, " THIS AIN'T NO CHICK FLICK "!!!!Read full review
The Marine starring John Cena, WWE champ, looks like, acts like, fights like a marine. Action movie is what you would expect and more. I was surprised at how well he acted. Looks as if he were a veteran actor. Of course the role did not require a lot and being a WWE star I guess he has been acting for a while. If you like Cena, you should enjoy the movie. I got exactly what I wanted.
John Triton is a heroic Marine who returns home after being discharged--against his will--from the Iraq War. Stateside, he finds himself back in action, when his wife is kidnapped by a murderous gang led by a merciless criminal named Rome. With everything on the line, the Marine will stop at nothing to carry out his toughest and most important mission. John Cena was great in this movie and so were Robert Patrick & Kelly Carlson. If you're looking for a great action movie you found one with The Marine.
