Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Portable AM/FM Radios
This kit does take the hassle out of sourcing and ordering small quantities of components. The kit components are as described and will improve the sound quality of your radio. The included LED vastly improves the clarity of the display at night. However, the "fully illustrated fitting details" supplied with each kit only show where the capacitors go and which way round they are to be fitted. Taking a photo of the board before removal of the old capacitors will achieve the same purpose (you should take a photo at every stage of disassembly anyway). The LED fitting information was helpful. A step by step guide to dismantling the radio and removing the old capacitors would have saved a lot of time and anxiety. I am a qualified Mechanical and Electrical Engineer but have no experience of SMD work so some guidance on how to fit these particular SMD components in this tiny radio would probably have helped me. I didn't find it easy and I think you should only attempt this repair yourself if you are comfortable with the thought of having a go. To be fair, if you ask the seller (Garry), he will tell you that you should have experience of SMD soldering and what tools you will require, although this is not stated in the advert. Conclusion: The components in the kit do what the seller claims and are worth it if you don't want to spend time and effort in sourcing the components yourself. It is good value and it has given my old but much loved, and used Sony ICF-SW1 a new lease of life. For that I thank Garry for his help in providing this kit.Read full review

He did a great job replacing very tiny components in the radio. It's just exactly what was needed. He and I emailed several times, especially about the mail being slow (on the US side), and getting hit by Customs on the UK side. (my fault, I valued it too high, and they thought he bought it from me). - try to get words in to the effect of "sent for repair and return to the US". FYI, though he only spent three days repairing it, two full months elapsed between my mailing it and receiving it. Most of the delay was on this side of the pond.

The Sony SW1 was a wonder of design, function and miniaturisation when it came out; I think it is a design classic. The capacitors corrode over time and this is a really useful and high quality service to get the radio working again as it did when new.

These replacement capacitors were identical to the originals. If they'd had longer legs it would have been easier to re-fit them in the confined space. That said, I just about managed and the radio is working fine again.
