This is a great movie for all ages. It is based on the 1963 book by the same name. It was an International best seller written by Anne Holm. David was placed in a concentration camp at 18 months old. His father has been killed and his mother removed. The movie begins shortly before David's escape from the concentration camp ,at age 12, and follows him from Bulgaria to Denmark(where he hopes to find family). He travels alone,on foot. We watch as he discovers for the first time what the world is like outside of a concentration camp, the only world he has ever known. This is not a true story but seems like one. I have also read the book and this remains true to it. It leaves out one segment of his journey and ends slightly different. The focus of the movie/book is on his journey of discovery. The details of his time in the concentration camp are given only in flashbacks that help reveal information, which makes it a suitable movie to share with age 12 and up kids, grandchildren or students. I thought the acting was excellent and wondered why this didn't get the reviews and acclaim it deserved. It supports my theory that critics don't know everything. I would have never found out about it had it not been referred to me by Netflix. I wanted to add this to my personal collection...my best all time movies.Read full review
To start with this film is one of the best foreign films that I’ve seen, and I’ve watched many of them. I loved this film so much I now have it in my personal collection. I don’t want to tell you too much about this film it’s that good, the first time I watched this film was at a friend house. She had rented it and we watched it together. It’s about a boy that was taken from his mother and put in a concentration camp, and his journey to Denmark with only a compass. David is played by Ben Tibber and he is excellent in this roll and very realistic. Plowright and Caviezel both are outstanding in their rolls too. If you only watch one Drama this year, make sure it is I AM DAVID it’s that good. By the way this film is going to make you cry at the end. Trust me it’s that well done.
I watched this movie on YouTube, loved so much found on eBay and bought to share with friends.

I love this movie. It teaches many things: hope in spite of bad circumstances, resourcefulness, friendship, evil and goodness, and above all, sacrifice. David's friend Johann really played the role of Christ, sacrificing his own life in the camp so David could live. It is very tender and beautifully played by Jim Caviezel and Joan Plowright. Everyone we showed it to has loved it.
I loved the movie when I first saw it and bought a copy for my collection.

I wasnt too sure if I'd like this movie at first but after watching it, I am very impressed and I very much liked the story line and the journey David took. 1/3 of the way through the movie I wanted to 'adopt' David as he has a great spirit and is a wonderful kid. I will not spoil the movie for those who have not seen it but I'm so happy with the ending (though I wish it would delve more so into the situation) but I was glad. It can be a tear jerker for those of you who cry at sentimental movies but I can tell you that the movie does not focus on all the negative things that has happened and really shows the love of God through the events that happen to David. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone and at any age really. It is beautifully portrayed and amazing.
I Am David is an amazing movie. It shows actor Jim Caviezel at his finest, and the plot of the story is simply unlike any I have ever seen before. All characters are portrayed vividly and real, making the movie seem grammy worthy. I believe it is the most under-rated film of the year as from the content you would believe it to be a bestseller. A must watch! I would give it a 7 of 5 if I could, it's THAT good!
My whole family loved this movie. Ages range from 10 to 41. This made us all cry and think and thank God for our family. What a journey this young man had. The acting was fantastic. I loved them all and thought they outdid themselves. This is a keeper and we have watched it several times now. This really brought up a great time of discussion on how people treat each other. It sends you away really thinking and makes you grateful for your life. At least rent it, it won't be a waste of money. We give this 5 stars and would give it 7, too like the other reviewer! Enjoy!
This will be THE movie that you'll ALWAYS remember. The twists and turns in it are jaw dropping, to say the VERY least ! ! It's a rather sad story which will PULL tears from your eyes as though you were involved with the plot yourself ! ! A MUST SEE for anybody that has a heart and for those that don't have a heart, this movie will probably transplant one into the now empty cavity ! ! ! BUY THIS MOVIE - it's one that you'll share with friends, neighbors, strangers, and anyone else that you could think of (even those without a heart - SMILE) ! ! ! !
This is a very touching and moving story about a boy's magnificent journey of self-realization after escaping from a Bulgarian concentration camp in 1952. As he travels through Greece, Italy and to his ultimate goal to deliver a sealed envelope to Denmark, this boy changes his behavior with people whom he meets along the way. This is an amazing film for the whole family. Wonderful acting from Jim Caviezel, young Ben Tibber and the legendary Joan Plowright. This is one film I recommend for everyone to see!!
