this camcorder is supposed to be a music video recorder with premium audio. but in fact has the worst audio recording i've ever heard. smart phones from 5 years ago had better audio recording quality than this. it picks up the bass to a point where you can't hear anything else, it just muffles all other sounds. the picture quality is by no means nothing to write home about. and if you can believe, because i still can't, it doesn't have a zoom.. so if you place the camcorder far away so it picks up less on the bass signals, this time you can't see your self bkz there is no zoom. the worst product I've come across in a long time. definitely not Sony material i can tell you that much. if i hadn't bought it online and thrown away the packaging i would have returned it by now. Do Not Buy !!! Read full review

This is a great small format camcorder for recording music video. I recorded a band last night and the audio quality and video quality captured by the camera was very good. The ability to control recording remotely from a smartphone is simply fantastic. It has a wide angle lens which on one hand gives a little of a fish bowl appearance. But it also means you can place the camera close to the band and pick up the entire band. I rated ease of use a 4. The menuing system is comprehensive but some setting are not clearly available or not available at all. For example where to set low light situations or how to set auto level control for audio. It would be fabulous if Sony would expand the remote app to let you see and control audio levels from the smartphone or tablet. Right now all you can do is see what the camera sees and start and stop recording. I have tried several small format camcorders designed for audio applications including the Zoom Q3HD and Alesis Videotrack. The Sony HDR-MV1 is my clear favorite. I was impressed with the clarity of sound on this camera. The image will take some tweaking, as it is a very wide angle lens, so in order to get close-ups, you have to settle for a little "fish eye" look, but other than that, it's great! I love the wi-fi function where you can control it with your phone. That's a real plus, and you can use your phone screen for setting up the shot if you're just using a tripod, and don't have anyone helping you. All in all, it's a great little camera, and I think the best part I like personally, is the aux in feature where you can get line recordings straight out of a mixer. I have used that function several times, and it works like a charm.
The camera come with XY microphone. The voice quality crystal clear and loseless .WAV file. Only one weak point is that it's sensitive with wind can generate noise. You need to use it in the environment no fan, no wind.

Very nice. Light weight. Have not had a chance to use it yet. The pouch that came with it is too small. Cannot get camera in it.
