The result is an album both subtly hilarious and sonically appealing, perfect for fans of both Monty Python, the Beatles, or both. The Rutles: Dirk McQuickly (Eric Idle); Ron Nasty (Neil Innes); Stig O'Hara (Rikki Fataar); Barry Wom (John Halsey).
Every prefab classic from this Ruticulous mockumentary is magnificently represented here, each song catchier and more Beatlesque than the one before it. Neil Innes is a master of parody, yet it's clear he has a deep love and respect for the source material.
The CD comes complete with the original booklet and some extra interview transcripts, but alas, no lyrics. That indiscretion is quickly forgotten, an in no time you'll be twisting and - ahem - rutting to every catchy gem.
