One of the most painful films I've ever looked forward to was Godzilla in 1998 until Toho renamed him Zilla which fits the name more perfectly. However this 2014 movie makes Roland Emmerich want to cash in his last chips. Gareth Edwards who directed this movie should get more credit. He has shown deep respect for Toho's monster icon which is more than I can say for Tri-Star. All they did was give us a Jurassic Park rip off instead. How insulting is that? I actually enjoyed the 3D showing of Godzilla 2014 because it made me feel like I was in the movie myself. I'm sure every respecting Godzilla fans have good thoughts about this film. I for one was more than impressed. Finally an American Godzilla that's looks and acts like Godzilla and not a Jurassic Park T-Rex. This is Godzilla we're talking about. Also, I'm still interested in looking up the new Japanese film called Shin Gojira (Godzilla Resurgence) which I've heard is coming out this summer. Not sure if it's being picked up for U.S. release or not. My thoughts is if Hollywood decides to bring back the 1998 creature like Toho did in Godzilla Final Wars, at least they leave his name Zilla and have him fighting off the 2014 Godzilla in a sequel if possible. Though I understand that Zilla won't be in any sequel to the 2014 film, maybe sometime in the distant future perhaps. Free cheers for Godzilla 2014! I would highly recommend this movie to any G fan totally.Read full review

The quality of the dvd itself is great, The viewing of the movie on the disk however is hard to see its to dark to see 70 present of the action in the movie. The representation of Godzilla having feet of a land tortoise along with the head of and snapping turtle is WRONG to the legacy of Godzilla, The caliber of this movie earns it a DNB, But if you're collecting Godzilla movies you have to put this film in the collection.

This movie is worlds away from the 1960's original production. LOTS of fun to watch. This was a two-disc set and I haven't seen the additional disc of special features, but I suspect it will be a good experience as well. I am not a movie critic, but I know when a movie keeps my interest with excellent quality of craftsmanship, and THIS is how I describe this production. Acting is very good with most of the main characters, the CG work is really good throughout. Only Godzilla can create a feeling of personal connection and a sense of rooting for the underdog monster which is, after all, the main character. I would expect a second follow-up movie with more of the secondary monsters such as "Mothra" coming up against Godzilla in future sequels. This movie should please most audiences whether family or date night viewing, but that would of course be determined by mom and dad for younger viewers. I consider it a 4 out-of 5 star rating from me.Read full review
This movie far outclasses the Tristar version from 1998! Zilla's design was cool, but he was not Godzilla. I loved this movie when I saw it in theaters, and I'm getting my daughter caught up with Legendary's Monsterverse before we go to see Godzilla: King of the Monsters this year. Godzilla looks quite similar to the Showa and Heisei versions of the Kaiju, even some elements of his design are reminiscent of the Millennium Godzilla however this newest design is quite refreshing. Definitely among the best

Leaps and bounds better than the horrible 1998 Godzilla. Which was not really Godzilla, it was just a giant lizard loose in New York. Godzilla (2014) is a much better representative of the real Godzilla. Superb acting. Kept you interested throughout the movie. No boring moments. I hesitated watching this one because our 1998 attempt sucked so badly, but now I'm glad I finally watched it. I own every Godzilla movie ever made and this one did not disappoint. I highly recommend watching this movie if you haven't already.

Very good movie. The buildup to the bad monster was excellent. The graphics were awesome. The destructive power of the antagonist monster were new and exciting. Tho location of the monster mash was different and interesting. Very well done Godzilla movie.

Godzilla is a very good movie but you do need to pay attention to a couple of the creatures so you know which one is which. Other than that, we really enjoyed it!
