Have had cheaper spade bits break and bend on hardwood. Meanwhile these, in addition to being chunky have an extra spike on the outer of the cutting surface to ensure a clean cut entry and minimal tear-out. They feel solid and will handle all sorts of rough work - I haven't broken any despite using them to cut out holes for wiring in hardwood beams/bracing. Spend the extra few bucks on these and save yourself having to throw cheap rubbish alternatives away after half a job. This variety comes in a sleeve - so gives them a home that isn't rattling around the bottom of the toolbox poking holes in stuff.
