I’ve been using a Canon full frame with 70-200/2.8 lens for weekend kids footy games in the past. And I think this little Sony does pretty much the same job if the photos are just viewed on screen or phone. And it can fit in my pocket. Battery life is acceptable. The pop up viewfinder is brilliant. Highly recommended!

A lot of wraps on this pocket-sized camera but it lives up to the hype. I'm a semi-pro photographer who mainly uses a Canon 5D MkIV DSLR but I wanted a camera I could carry around when I didn't want to lug a DSLR; one that could shoot landscapes as well as it could shoot street. Hence buying the DSC-RX100 VII based on reviews and chat group praise. So, yes, the Sony operating system is slightly confusing but you really don't need a lot of the stuff that is buried several layers deep. The quality of photos is very good indeed – shoot in RAW and on manual and you'll have no complaints. Sometimes the colours need rejigging in post-production but they can on a DSLR too. I don't shoot in .jpg so I can't tell you how that comes up. Incidentally, the auto focus is excellent. It's a pity the touchscreen doesn't extend to the menu and is only useable for focusing. But that's a minor gripe. Overall, it's better than I thought it would be – 9/10. And it fits in my pocket!Read full review
