Sharp even wide open and at 400mm, stabilized, solidly made and a fraction of the cost of the CaNikon equivalents which aren't any better in the field. Before you buy any of the mostly mediocre and oversized zooms to 500mm (the sharpest and most size-manageable one is the old Tamron SP AF 200-500/5-6.3 - a good lens) think carefully about how much you need those extra 100mm. If you really need more reach than 400mm (even x1.5/x1.6 on an APS-C body?? Really???) then go for the Tamron 150-600/5-6.3, which I can vouch is great, and 90+% of the image quality of the absurdly heavy and expensive Sigma "Sports" equivalent (the "Contemporary" version is very inferior). This and the sensational Sigma APO 100-300/4 were brilliant long tele zoom designs by Sigma that deserved to be kept in their line-up long term.Read full review

I bought this lens for outdoor sports photography with my Nikon D7000 (The seller changed over the attachment to a Nikon one). Brilliant lens. The price is phenomenal compared to canon or nikon branded lenses of the same calibre. Only criticisms are that it is a bit heavy and the focusing is slightly on the slow side. Overall a great lens that has given me a newfound appreciation for Sigma.
