This is my first and probably last cheap handheld radio.
I bought mine from tool_nerd and got an excellent looking unit with proper manual and well constructed charger battery belt clip etc.
It would be a 5 star if it was rated on value for money alone, but it is not selective enough and I quickly realised it is the perfect amateur beginners radio to teach you to spend more money on your next one!
It is as sensitive in my opinion as my icom handheld (see I followed my own advice and bought a 'serious' radio) but worlds apart when it comes to city and suburban operation as the Baofeng is overwhelmed by strong near band signals. in the country with less local rf noise it is great.
If it is all you have the budget for to dip a toe in the water this unit is worth buying and tool_nerd seems to have the 'official' product.
If you can spend a little more I would suggest the Yaesu FT-4XR as it is basically the same but much better front end selectivity.(I got my icom cheap from a fellow ham or I would have 'upgraded' to the Yaesu myself)

The cable I received was defective, even Ubuntu was not recognising the cable being plugged in (despite having a large driver database), pointing to the USB-to-serial chip being defective. This may have been a one-off, however I wasn't going to order another and wait around again to find out. A better option would be to purchase a little FTDI or similar breakout board and wire up your own serial cable, at least then you can use the breakout board for other projects too. The cable itself also has a very small wire gauge.

A very useful radio at a very cheap price. The radio also comes with many accessories, some you get for free with the radio and others you can buy separately.
I was a little skeptical of the quality with it being so cheap and was expecting a cheap plastic 'toy', but this little gem is in a class of its own.
There are two small issues with this radio, first, the manual is very basic and not that much help. You will learn much more by watching a few 'youtube' clips on how to use the radio than by reading the manual.
Secondly, the programming of channels is not the simplest when trying to program it by hand, but I purchased the USB Program Cable separately and again after watching a couple of YouTube clips for the initial installation the programming was easy.
At 5 watts output its a great little radio for the glove box of the car or for hiking, etc. I give it 5/5 because of price and performance.Read full review
Easy to use out of the box, just set the frequency on all radios to the same thing and off you go (I bought 4) they pick up fm radio too, which might come in handy. We use them for the property which is quite large and full of gullies, the signal from one end of the property to the other was crystal clear, even the radio that stayed in the house was clear enough to hear the music on the tv in the background.
Great radios for the price, couldnt get the headsets to work though that were included, dunno what the problem is there.
Highly recommend to anyone wanting a radio that works great as a radio, dunno what else it does, as were are only using them for communication. Also they were a lot smaller than I thought theyd be, which was kinda a plus, lightweight and can easily attach to anything without weighing it down.Read full review
Very difficult to use, have to google frequencies to use, best frequency I got was UHF (CB) channel 7 general chat channel, have one of those in my car (UHF).
