The lens is expensive, but you get what you pay for. This lens delivered my expectation, one lens instead of two standard ones: 18-55 & 55-250 mm. The Aperture (F number) is better between the range 18 to 55 mm than the standard lens. My Tamron has between 3.5 to 4 f number for 18 to 55 mm while the std Canon lens 18 to 55mm has f number 3.5 to 5.6. At this range most of the photos are taken. Sometimes odd photos are take from a very far distance and can be done without changing the lens thereby also protecting dust entering the camera. The Tamron is also not too big. Tamron is also the smallest in size compared to the Canon equivalent (18-200 mm) and Sigma (18-200 mm). Tamron also has a bigger zoom to 270mm. However the Canon equivalent is said to have better image stabilizer, but I found nothing wrong with the Tamron image stabiliser. Look I am happy and I'll buy the Tamron again. Something different: I requested Canon to produce some more prime lenses for my EF-S camera Canon 550D (the smaller sensor (APS-C). They only have the 60mm. Prime lenses have the advantage of having big apertures, which is small F number like 1.8. I would love to buy EF-S 12mm, 18mm and 28mm prime lenses. They are also smaller in size making the camera more compact like the famous full frame 50mm, but the 50mm is too telescopic. What everyone needs is more wide angle. With big aperture one can take different photos: better in the dark and it has greater depth of field, more realistic and more 3D. But Canon does not seem interested. So meanwhile I have to be content with my Tamron and play the waiting game with Canon.Read full review
I bought this lens as I wanted to be able to get the full range of my existing two Canon lenses into one lens. After using this lens I found that it covers what I had hoped to achieve plus a bit more. Prior to purchasing I had read good and not so good reviews but as I am not a professional photographer I felt that it would probably do waht I needed. I have not been disappointed.
Casing was a bit knocked about with some deep scratches. Seems to be ok otherwise. It was the cheapest of its kind so it makes sense to be more damaged. Maybe should say “good working condition” Still happy with my purchase and have saved heaps.

An outstanding lens for the price, it is very practical for both near and far shooting. Eliminates the need to carry two or more ordinary lens when travelling. The quality is excellent and the VC (vibration control) is very helpful to reduce shake when taking zoomed shots
Thank just what I was after.
