Love the title of this book! For those of us who love to cook and eat, like me, and collect cookbooks until you have to add an addition on to your house to hold your "bookstore"......here is another! Iain Hewitson's thirty years in the Australian food industry has made him a household name Down Under. But now we get to sample some of the food he is famous for! "Huey," as he is known, has been a TV chef, owns a bar/ bistro in Melbourne and written some best selling cookbooks. In this book he took seven months out to travel to some exotic places so he'd have more to report back to his TV viewers. Now, "Skinny Book" is traditional in that it offers the usual categories from soups to desserts and everything inbetween and calls for familiar ingredients that we use, but only in different combinations. In Bali he found a delicious beef patty with coconut, sauteed watermelon with scallops and pink peppercorns and chicken filled wonton wrappers, deep fried with a sweet chili sauce (this one is yum, yum!)Australia's melting pot is represented here also with Greek lamb salad and Vietnamese chicken coleslaw. Everything is freshly prepared but there is no surprise that each recipe uses copious amounts of spices, Asian fish sauce and lemongrass. If the exotic taste don't appeal to you or the blend of many spices, you might want to back away from this book. But....if you are an armchair traveler, you will love it because it reads like a travel-log with lots of humor!Read full review
