A profound book. Becker takes the big four of psychoanalysis: Freud, Adler, Jung and especially Rank, shows where they were wrong and right and moves forward to a synthesis of psychoanalytic thought. His central thesis is that all of us are fundamentally motivated by a denial of OUR OWN impending death and that we strive for immortality via various life projects. Most of the life projects that people choose are in fact useless in achieving our inmost desires.
Very thought provoking, really recommend it.
