Anyone affected by cancer will receive a feeling of hope from A GOOD DAY ANYWAY by Dave Massey. He started writing poems during his second battle with cancer as a gift for his daughter, and found a unique way to share his encouraging story of survival. This inspiring poetic journal is sure to have a positive impact on others who are looking for their miracle. Dave Massey's poems recall the pathos, fear and deep appreciation of life that cancer brings. He conveys a lighthearted optimism without trivializing the circumstances. The moments he describes will be recognized by all of us who see or experience any severe illness. --- Jayne Gurtler, MD, FACP Oncology and Internal MedicineA GOOD DAY ANYWAY is true and sincere. It should be a staple in every Oncology clinic, office, and center. Cancer survivors need an honest, personal representation from someone who has been there. Dave nailed it here. Author Biography
Dave Massey is a two-time cancer survivor. In 1986, doctors discovered a mixed germ cell tumor in Dave's hip that had spread into both legs. Dave was accepted as a patient at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. There he received six courses of chemo and fourteen radiation treatments during a nine month period. Dave survived this cancer and was even considered cured until 1997 when another type of germ cell tumor the size of a grapefruit was found in his chest cavity. Dave returned to M. D. Anderson for another nine months of treatment. This time he received thirteen courses of chemo before the tumor was surgically removed. He has remained cancer free since then. Poetry became instrumental during this second battle with cancer and continues to be an important part of Dave's life. Dave was raised just outside of New Orleans, Louisiana and is married to Karen, also a cancer survivor. Together, Dave and Karen now travel the country working and sharing Dave's poems, stories, and positive attitude.
