A how-to on painting with watercolors as well as a beautiful depiction of the Petoskey region of Michigan Nestled on the shore of Little Traverse Bay, Petoskey is a well-kwn resort town in the rthern Lower Peninsula of Michigan. Watercolorist Catherine Carey uses her home town of Petoskey and her personal journal as a primer to the technique of painting with watercolors. In her journal, Carey describes why she selects a specific scene to paint, what the focal point of the painting should be and why, how to sketch the scenescape, and how to mix colors to get the desired result. Each of the journal pages includes at least one of the artist's watercolors of Petoskey.
With over 25 years painting experience, Catherine Carey has had paintings commissioned for the Petsokey Chamber of Commerce President's Award, the Bay View Association's annual catalog covers, and others. She is an instructor at Crooked Tree Arts Center, conducts Bay View Association summer education seminars, and teaches watercolor workshops at Central Michigan University. She has won numerous awards from juried and invitational art exhibits.
