Charlton Maxwell Jimerson is a Major League Baseball outfielder who was born in San Leandro, California, in 1979. He survived a turbulent childhood, saved in part by discovering his love of baseball at an early age. He was drafted out of high school in the twenty-fourth round of the 1997 Major League Baseball Amateur draft, but he chose to put his education first and attended the University of Miami, Florida. As a Miami Hurricane, Jimerson won two NCAA Collegiate Baseball National Championships and was named the 2001 College World Series Most Outstanding Player. After college, Jimerson went on to play in the Minor Leagues. Baseball America reported him as having the Best Outfield Arm, as well as being the Best Athlete in the Houston Astros farm system in 2005. Later that year, Jimerson made his Major League debut with the Houston Astros on September 14, 2005. Oddly, Jimerson had to wait until 2006 to get his first at-bat in the Major Leagues. That's when Jimerson pinch-hit for future hall-of-fame pitcher Roger Clemens, belting a home run his first at-bat.
