During compulsory military training, ghettos did t grow - there was a way out for military-aged men (and women) who chose to live in a different part of the United States after serving their country. The welfare system did t grow; all young men and women had an opportunity to receive some job training that could be utilized after they completed their tour of duty. Our prison system did t grow - most young people who got into trouble had a choice - the military or prison. Now we have more people in prison than any other country in the world! What happened to discipline, responsibility, punctuality, self-respect and respect for parents, authority and the principles our country was founded on? What happened to the acceptance of others' races, languages, religions and traditions? Young people longer have a direction once they finish high school, or quit. Are we becoming a country of hate and hopelessness? Seven Presidents (4 Republican and 3 Democrat) have t brought the country in line; we continue America's Downward Slide.
