WHY is it that the OLD DEAD GUYS are so much better than of todays (not all) authors. I wish I had all of his OT books as well - he very good and thorough. His books Makes for great reading (for me). They keep my attention. Not hard to read. He puts material in each book that makes for better understanding. as to history of that time and drawings of items. Like coins or tools,, etc. I really like the One Book I have of his ISAIAH that I got at a Used bookstore. Not complicated, at 900 pp. Plenty of reading to do. He exegetes each passage/s. He went to really good schools which is what I look for. So I know he was trained as a pastor should be. Anyway. I would include dead guys like C Hodge/AA Hodge/Calvin/Luther/Spurgeon/Lloyd Jones!!/ some of many great authors - Lloyd jones is terrific. Have most of his books. My 2c worth. Read full review

I have used Barne's Notes for years. He is thorough and well studied, and considered the Bible the infallible word of God. You get a vast amount of info all in one volume. Just remember no commentary is inspired by God, and all are bound to contain mistakes. I disagree with his postion on baptism, which according to Acts 22:16 and Acts 2:28 washes away your sins and is for the forgiveness of sins. Compared with many other commentaries Barnes does a good job.
Great content but font size is difficult to read

This is a good commentary that my father suggested that I use. Of course there are things in it that we do not agree with, but it is only one man's opinion and his opinion is not inspired by God. Barnes's Notes is a good tool to study with an open Bible. It is a helpful commentary, but one must remember thats all it is, a commentary.
