This is the third printer I have had. I will not mention the other two brands. The Brother is by far the best. The packaging was perfect. The instructions for set up were perfect. The instant performance and ease of use is perfect. I have been using a lot now for a few weeks and it is perfect. On top of all this the price was unbelievably low. I could not be happier. Highly recommended.

As entry level mono laser printers go, this one is good value. Print quality, paper handling, speed and power consumption are all fine and consumables cost is lower than you'd expect for a printer at this price point. About the only serious deficiency is the lack of an open source driver for Linux. Brother provides a proprietary lpr/CUPS driver package for Linux that works well but it relies on executables compiled for 32-bit x86 only for which no source code is provided. This complicates installation on 64-bit x86 systems and makes it prohibitively difficult on ARM-based boxes such as the Raspberry Pi.
