First class lens, easy to use, a good compromise lens for both w/a and telephoto use. New lens price a bit steep, but available second hand at very competitive prices. Definition is very good and auto focus works well. Very happy to have obtained a lens that will give me good service for many years.

Great walk around lens for a great price
I purchased this lens back in 1998 when they were first released and I have no intentions of selling it. It is simply a great all-purpose lens that is suited to a wide range of applications. The 5x zoom range is great and the image stabiliser is handy for those low light situations. The build quality is good, although my only critisism is that when carried facing down, there is lens creep. The quality of the image through the zoom range is adequately sharp. Highly recommended for the amateur photographer who wants a versatile, good quality lens at a great price.
