The book, a must-read for clinicians and those who work professionally on any level with companion animals, describes the history of both anti-abuse legislation for children and companion animals in Europe and it's development in the States. How animal abuse evolves from children of abuse to animals is explained, through actual examples and studies, with identification and intervention suggestions. However, identification of children for early intervention offers ideas that, in this reader's opinion, can be furthered. Why the author seems not to have realized that there are more methods of identifying at-risk children is a mystery to me, as other possible methods seem obvious to this reader. Still a fascinating and necessary read for those above-mentioned.
