Datenbanksysteme haben in der Vergangenheit weite Verbreitung im Bereich betriebswirtschaftlich-administrativer Anwendungen erlangt. Im Gegensatz dazu gibt es erst in jungerer Zeit verstarkte Forschungsaktivitaten, um Datenbanksysteme auch fur Anwendungen des rechnergestutzten Entwerfens - und hier insbesondere fur die werkzeugunterstutzte Entwicklung von Software - nutzbar zu machen, obwohl inzwischen weitgehende Einigkeit daruber herrscht, dass Software-Produktionsumgebungen kunftig auf Datenbanksystemen basieren werden. In dem vorliegenden Buch werden zunachst detailliert die Anforderungen von Software-Produktionsumgebungen an Datenbanksysteme analysiert. Darauf aufbauend wird ein Datenmodell vorgestellt, das geeignet ist, Informationsstrukturen von Software-Werkzeugen zu modellieren und zu manipulieren. Von der Vorstellung des Datenmodells ausgehend werden dann zentrale Fragen seiner Implementierung behandelt sowie seine Anwendung fur Zwecke der Werkzeugintegration diskutiert. In diesem Zusammenhang wird der enge Bezug zu der im Datenbankbereich bekannten Problematik der Sichtenintegration aufgezeigt und ausgenutzt. Das Buch wendet sich gleichermassen an Datenbankexperten, die sich fur objektorientierte Datenbanksysteme, Datenmodelle und Datenbankentwurf interessieren, wie auch an Fachleute der Software-Techlogie, die sich mit Werkzeugen und deren Integration in Software-Produktionsumgebungen befassen.
