Pool Water Testing Kits

If you own a pool, one of the most important but perhaps confusing steps of maintenance is water balance. The pH level needs to be correct or it can lead to a variety of problems, no matter if your pool is salt based or chlorine based. If your pool does not have the right pH level, the water can affect your eyes and skin or even cause corrosion to parts of your pool such as the ladder, pump and liner. Additionally, your chlorine sanitiser may not work at its full strength and will be unable to kill all those nasty germs and bacteria leaving your family at risk of getting sick. Understanding what pool chemicals and testing supplies are available to you and knowing when and how to use them is critical for keeping a clean and safe pool to use and enjoy all summer long.

Pool Water Test Kits

Branded and unbranded pool water testing kits cover different testing products and you will be able to find one that is right for your needs. Some of the products available are digital test pens through to 4-in-1 test kits, which involve taking samples from the pool water and testing them using tablets.

Pool Test Strips

A really easy way of testing the pH level in your pool is by using pool test strips. You can simply use these strips by dipping them into the water and you will be able to see the results within 15 seconds.

Pool Testing Frequency

If you use your backyard pool only occasionally, you should be doing your pool water testing at least once a week. If you use the pool more frequently, like in the middle of summer, testing the pool water two or three times a week is ideal. Public pools with many users need to be checked every hour.

Optimum pH Level

An optimum pH level to have in your pool water is 7.2 to 7.8. The pH level refers to the acidity or baseness of the water. Any reading from 0-7 means that the water has low acidity, and anything higher than 8 means it is has high acidity. While a high pH level will make the chlorine inactive, lower pH levels will make chlorine dissolve quicker.
