This volume focuses on three Greek myths connected to the island of Lems in the rthern Aegean. The relate how the hero Philoktetos is wounded by a snake, how the island's women kill their husbands, and how Hephaistos, god of the forge, fell from heaven to earth. The inner workings of these three myths is analyzed, as well as their relationship to other myths and specific geographical and historical circumstances. Based on a newly conceived structuralistic interpretation, this volume offers interesting insights into the analysis of myths in general. German text.
