Industrial Electric Fence Chargers

Industrial Electric Fence Chargers

Electric fence chargers or energizers deliver high power electric pulses to keep pets or livestock in, or wild animals out. Modern fence chargers are solid state and emit a silent pulse of voltage about every one to two seconds. Some allow you to set the time between pulses, to save power. Note the output voltage has to be around 7,000 volts to allow for leaks. You will need fence materials like poles, wires of metal, poly tape or poly cord, an earth rod, and plastic or porcelain insulators to go with your fence chargers.

What Kinds of Electric Fence Chargers Are There?

Various models of electric fence chargers can take power from mains electricity, car batteries, dry cell batteries or solar panels. Some models have adaptors that enable them to use any power supply. The fence chargers you need depend on the types of animals you're working with, distance from the mains and fence length. The amp hours of electric fence chargers need to be bigger for longer fences. Use 4.5 Ah for 3 km industrial electric fence chargers. In a battery-powered charger, the work time on one charge is about 6 to 8 days. Use 5 Ah for 5 km industrial electric fence chargers. In a battery-powered charger, the work time on one charge is about 5 to 7 days. Use 12 Ah for 10 km industrial electric fence chargers with a work time of 3 to 4 days on one charge.

Solar Electric Fence Chargers

If your electric fence is far from the mains, you can run it with solar fence chargers. The charger has solar panels mounted on top. They are just as powerful as mains powered fence chargers.

Mains Powered Electric Fence Chargers

240-volt mains power is the ideal supply for electric fence chargers. The reason is lower power consumption, thus better cost effectiveness. If you can use neither solar nor mains, battery-powered electric fence chargers are available. They come in different models, good for either short or long runs of fence.

Fence Chargers For Different Animals

Different animals need different voltages from electric fence chargers. This is because they have different skin and hair thickness that the electricity has to go through. Beef cattle and horses require from 2,000 to 3,000 volts. Dairy cattle (without bulls) and pigs require 2,000 volts. Llamas, sheep, goats and deer require from 4,000 to 5,000 volts. Keeping pets in or small nuisance animals out will require from 700 to 2,000 volts, depending on the species. Humans only need upward of 100 volts.
