The book is in two parts. The first goes through various trips you can go on, and the rest covers bush tucker. I am most interested in the bush tucker side of things, and there are quite a lot of plants covered in alphabetical order, however each plant only has one photo and a few paragraphs of explanation. This is enough to know whether it's safe to eat or not, but I would have preferred a bit more detail - what the leaves, flowers and fruit look like, taste and nutrition info, and so on (the reason being I would like to choose some of these plants to grow myself.) Some of the descriptions do include some of this information, but many don't. But if all you're after is a summary of bush tucker then it covers a lot of plants and is certainly an interesting read. The book also contains a lot of phone numbers for various agencies (mostly helpful when travelling) but this is somewhat dated now (being almost 20 years old) so I'm not sure how helpful that will be today.Read full review

Absolutely essential for anyone with a whiff of curiosity about Australia, as a land and how to survive if compromised in the outback.
