This is a gripping novel of a war within a war that keeps you reading late at night and leaves you with a lump in your throat. World War II US Army aviators struggling to survive as German Prisoners of War make the best of a harsh environment and hope they live until they are released. In the midst of their bare-bones survival arrives a dilemma - another downed American aviator, a fighter pilot shot down protecting their bomber crews -- but he is black. The resulting racial tension shatters the fragile society of mutual support and overshadows the atrocities of war. Murder, intrigue, deception and fear are combined with soul wrenching struggles to apply civil values in an uncivilized society. From the opening flash-back of bombing runs in the Mediterranean to the clutching finale where memories are the most valuable souvenirs of a hard life this novel sneaks through your eyes and buries itself in your heart. Perhaps it should have been named "Heart's War."Read full review
I decided to buy Hart's War book because I seen the movie. The book was a little different compared to the movie. However, I did enjoy reading the book. It had the same storyline that the movie did. If you like prisoner of war or court room dramas, you will like the book and the movie. The book is set in WWII prison camp.
