Van Morrison's third studio album for Warner Bros is often seen as an orphan, a marking of time between peaks of brilliance. I beg to differ. After the highs of Astral Weeks and Moondance perhaps anything might seem lesser, but certainly not mundane. There is plenty of kick (Domino; I've Been Working) and mystery (Crazy Face). The band is well drilled, musicians on their way to the glory of the Caledonia Soul Orchestra, and Morrison sounds as if he is enjoying himself hugely. It makes me smile anyway.
