The late great Norman Wisdom endeared himself to fans all over the world with his classic comic creation Norman Pitkin, a buffoon with a big heart and even bigger ambitions. Stumbling along the thin blue line in On the Beat, Pitkin aspires to be a policeman like his father before him. Big on laughs but short in stature he has to settle for washing police cars initially, but it's not long before Norman is impersonating an officer of the law in order to fulfil his lofty ambitions. Surrounded by all manner of hijinks, this lofty bobby truly has his work cut out for him. Ever the consummate comedian, Wisdom seizes the opportunity to also play Pitkins grand nemesis, the German General Schreiber, as well as the chief suspect in a series of outrageous jewel robberies that will leave Pitkin literally tripping over himself to solve.
