Many might argue about the smaller size of the sensor on this camera vs say a micro 4/3 compact or an APSC. Having acknowledged that, move on. The len’s starts at F1.8 so is nice, bright and fast. I love the B&W grain effect giving very 50/60s photojournalistic effects, while one push takes you into the other modes … including manual. I bought one of these several years ago and despite its age, on 8x10 prints or viewing on a 27inch monitor I’m as impressed with the image quality as I am with the fairly wide range of DSLR and mirrorless cameras I’ve needlessly upgraded to.

I have been involved with photography both commercially and for pleasure for many years. The DMC-LX3 has a large range of features on board. Quick access in the field combined with raw/ fine jpg combination images , 2000th /sec, aperture or shutter priority , 1:2.0 - 2.8 Leica lens,, a fairly good on board flash and a hot shoe for remote or additional flash or the optional viewfinder to name only a few features. I use a Large Dslr normally. I have carried a lumix DMC-TZ11 as a pocket spare for years but the LX3 can do so much more! With the addition of a 52mm lens adaptor this little camera can also share the filters etc that traditionally are utilized on a 50mm 1.2 lens. I like a larger camera for holding as I have large hands and fingers. The case however has a raised right hand grip with non slip pad material and the camera comes with a neck strap that attaches to both ends of the case. The manual removal of the lens cap instead of an auto lens external protective shutter or a slide cover is not a problem to me as I have been removing lens caps for as long as I can remember. The pricing offered by the seller despite being a superceded model rekindled interest in the LX3. I knew that the features and ease to use in my opinion left many small digital cameras far behind. It really was a 'no brainer'. I have ultimately purchased this DMC-LX3 camera as a backup for a close relative that is currently in Arts courses through College and this camera will do her well in the course of her studies.Read full review
