The 150th anniversary of Giacomo Puccini's birth in December 2008 provides a very good reason to dedicate a release in the series A Biographical Kaleidoscope to one of opera's most famous composers. This book is ather first-class portrait of a composer by author Detmar Huchting. It offers four CDs that combine the highlights of Puccini's musical works with, amongst others, complete recordings or excerpts from operas such as Tosca , Turandot or Gianni Schicchi . Artists like Herbert Kegel, Anneliese Rothenberger and Reiner Susz or the Staatskappelle Dresden/Berlin as well as the Rundfunk-Sinfonie-Orchester Leipzig guarantee top-class performances.
Detmar Huchting was born in 1954 in Hamburg, Germany and grew up there and in Bremen. A music-loving family home laid the foundation; the boys' choir of the Church of Our Lady in Bremen strengthened it and built a love of early music with works from Schutz to Bach. A classical education led on to a broad-based study of the humanities, ranging from theology to Nordic languages, literature, and musicology. He has worked with and for record labels since 1978; today, the music critic, journalist, and author lives in Frankfurt am Main.
