To celebrate the centenary of the original publication of A Dog's Life we are completing Cecil Aldin's trilogy of best-loved dog books with this, Sleeping Partners is also in the series. Few people can fail to be cheered and charmed by Aldin's mischievous puppies, which first came to life on the walls of his children's nursery. Each evening, instead of a story, Aldin would draw a picture on the walls of the room until the drawings encircled the room, in the form of a chase with farmyard animals to add to the interest. They became the inspiration for a series of books and from these drawings, full of zest and humour, the illustrations for this book have been selected.
Cecil Aldin was one of England's most illustrious illustrators, he is famous for his sporting prints, children's books and pictures of old inns but he is the unsurpassed master of depicting dogs. Aldin captured the very soul of a dog. Roy Heron is Aldin's biographer and continues to promote the work of Cecil Aldin.
