What are these strange holidays that the Jewish people celebrate? Did you kw that God instituted them? We read in the Gospels that Jesus was crucified on the Passover, But what is the Passover? Is there any significance to the fact that Jesus died on Passover? What about the other Jewish Feasts ? These feasts are Unleavened Bread, First Fruits and Feast of Weeks in the spring, Trumpets, Yom Kippur and Tabernacles in the fall. What are these all about? Do they hold any significance in the life of Jesus and the lives of His Christian followers? In these essays, you will find a brief overview of the Biblical Feasts and discover why they are significant to you as a Christian believer. They will give you reasons to incorporate them into your life and enrich your understanding and relationship to God the Father, who gave us the feasts and to His son Jesus who is the embodiment of the word of God. It is our prayer that you will enjoy these essays as much as we enjoyed writing them. We pray that you will begin to understand the powerful message contained in the feasts, the divine appointments that the LORD gave us all so that we may meet Him and fellowship with Him.
Brenda and I have been Christians for all of our adult lives. We met in college and came to know the Lord in the late 70's. We were married in 1981 and now reside in Washington State where we raised our two children. Brenda is a high school math teacher and I am a small business owner. Both of us have been active in a local church while raising the kids. We had always felt a desire for a greater understanding of God's word and a deeper relationship with the LORD. We have been involved in our current church, El Shaddai Ministries for several years, and are learning more each day about the character of God and His incredible mercy in that He planned our redemption from the very beginning of creation. As we learn more and more about who God is, we have become closer to Him and know what an incredible gift His salvation is. We can't help but share about God and the redemption He offers through His son, Yeshua (Jesus). And so, we want to share some of what we have learned. Our Bible study series titled Shadows of Messiah in the Torah is currently available through El Shaddai Ministries and here on Amazon.com. Our inspiration is Jesus' words when He spoke to two of His followers on the road to Emmaus after His resurrection. This has become our theme verse and is found in Luke 24:27, And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the scriptures concerning himself. What did Jesus teach them? What scriptures was He referring to? The only scriptures in existence at that time were those that we now call the Old Testament. It didn't take long to realize that the entire body of Old Testament scripture is about Him. Rediscovering our Hebrew roots in the Old Testament scriptures has been a journey of incredible joy and enlightenment. It is our hope and prayer that you too will embark on a journey of discovery in God's word. Shalom and Be Blessed Dan and Brenda Cathcart
