Freewheelers provides an emergency out of hours courier service for hospitals in the Bristol, Bath and Taunton area. It carries blood, samples, medicines, donated breast-milk, patient records and vital equipment overnight, at weekends and on public holidays. It does this at charge to the NHS and relies on the support of public donations and corporate sponsorship to maintain its service. It is stafffed wholly by unpaid volunteers and saves the NHS more than 250,000 a year.
Mark Green is a freelance writer. In order to enjoy a proper mid-life crisis, he decided to return to motorcycling after a 31 year lay-off. As a result of this decision, he inadvertently came into contact with the Freewheelers Emergency Voluntary Service. He was so amazed at what the charity does that he decided to try to help. This book is the result.
