Excerpt from The Conception of Priesthood in the Early Church and in the Church of England: Four Sermons The second edition which has been called for of this book will have an unusual advantage. Through the kindness of Dr. Moberly and of the editor of the Guardian, I am allowed to print with it, in the form of appendices, a searching, if at the same time a very indulgent, examination of the book itself, along with some words of my own in reply. I do t attempt to answer every point that has been raised, or that can be raised, but I have tried to state broadly both agreements and differences of principle. I can honestly say that I have t sought to minimize real differences, and yet I think the impression will be that they have been reduced within comparatively small and manageable dimensions.
