On an Arizona reservation divided between the Navajo and the Hopi people, young Navajo police officer Jim Chee (Lou Diamond Phillips) is assigned to catch a petty vandal. He instead witnesses a plane accident which is tied to a drug smuggling syndicate. Jim soon finds himself caught up in a series of murders, targeted by corrupt federal agents and unsure of who to trust or where to turn. Initiated into the rites of his ancestors in order to better penetrate the Navajo clan, Jim becomes caught in the ancient collision of culture versus crime. Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Errol Morris (THE THIN BLUE LINE), THE DARK WIND is a thrilling and fascinating story of crime and culture, set in the majectic surround of the Arizona desert. Based on a novel by Tony Hillerman.
