Nicholas Applin is an artist, and musician, with a voracious appetite for history, particularly Western History. The fascination began at an early age, reading Fredrick Manfred's, Lord Grizzly, in 5th grade and being caught in a spell of hero worship for the mighty mountain men, Jedidiah Smith, Jim Beckwourth, Jim Bridger, and others. Over the years the author has consumed countless tracks and volumes on the American West and History in general always being drawn back to the intrepid western fur trappers. Being of African American descent, Slavery as it existed in America has also been of particular interest, and the two elements of fur trapper and slave taken together, combined to make this work inevitable, at least in the authors mind. Now after over 40 years absorption of historical knowledge, and constant immersion into literature, what was in the authors mind has now come out in a flesh and blood story, the product of over seven years labor. A trained health care worker, the author lives and works in Springfield OH.
