I am a big Hunter S. Thompson fan. I have all of his books and many of the magazines he has articles, short stories and interviews in, two movies that are based on his books, and several documentaries on him. In 2007 when i heard that Anita Thompson had written a book I was exited. In this book she explores the legacy of her late husband, the founding father of "Gonzo Journalism" and inspiration to many, Hunter S. Thompson and shares insights from his unique approach to writing, politics and life. She pays tribute to him through interviews with those who knew him best, including Tom Wolfe, George McGovern and Douglas Brinkley. With elegant prose and entertaining antidotes she reveals a Hunter S. Thompson who was much more than a mere embodiment of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. This book is a welcome addition to the Thompson lore.Read full review
The fact that this book is so short does not hinder the pleasure it brings at all! Anita's insight into Hunter may be more in tune than even Hunter realized about himself. She lays the lessons she learned (from being in Hunter's inner circle) down in a plain and easy to read format. I'll bet most of his fans never realized he had so much to teach us....They just thought he was too busy getting fucked up. There was always so much more there and even though Hunter was never going to spell it out (cause that's just not cool right) I am glad Anita took the time to give us her take!
Thanks, nice book at a nice price. Fresh read for HST loyalist Freaks!
